Mode of Action of AGSO Bacillus thuringiensis as a Bio-Control Agent
AGSO Bio Bacillus thuringiensis is a naturally occurring soil bacterium found worldwide. What makes this microorganism remarkable is its ability to produce crystalline proteins (Cry proteins) that are toxic to specific insect groups but harmless to humans, animals, and beneficial insects.
Ingestion-Based Action (Target-Specific Control) : AGSO Bio Bacillus thuringiensis acts only when ingested by susceptible insect larvae. After feeding on Bacillus thuringiensis treated plant surfaces, the insect ingests Bacillus thuringiensis spores and protein crystals.
Activation of Cry & Cyt Proteins in the Insect Gut : Inside the alkaline gut of target insects, Bacillus thuringiensis’s Cry (crystal) and Cyt toxins are activated and converted into toxic proteins.
Gut Wall Disruption & Feeding Cessation : Activated toxins bind to specific receptors in the insect midgut, creating pores in the gut lining. This causes, Immediate cessation of feeding, Leakage of gut contents, and rapid weakening of the insect.
Septicemia & Larval Death : The damaged gut allows Bacillus Thuringiensis spores and gut bacteria to enter the insect’s body cavity, leading to septicemia and death within 24–72 hours.
High Specificity & Environmental Safety : Effective against caterpillars (Lepidopteran larvae), mosquito larvae, and beetle larvae (strain-dependent) and Harmless to beneficial insects, pollinators, animals, and humans. More importantly, Leaves no harmful residues.
Crop-wise Target Pest Control
Cereal Crops (Paddy, Wheat, Maize, barley, oats, rye, sorghum and Millet) : Major Target Pests (Larval Stage) - Stem borer, Leaf folder, Armyworm, Fall armyworm.
Pulse Crops (lentils, chickpeas, beans (like kidney, black, navy), peas, and black gram (urad)) : Major Target Pests (Larval Stage) - Pod borer (Helicoverpa), Armyworm, Leaf-eating caterpillar.
Oilseed Crops (Groundnut, Mustard, Sunflower, Soybean, Turnip rape, Linseed, Poppy) Major Target Pests (Larval Stage) - Leaf miner, Tobacco caterpillar (Spodoptera), Capsule borer.
Cotton : Major Target Pests (Larval Stage) - Bollworms (Helicoverpa, Earias), Armyworm.
Sugarcane : Major Target Pests (Larval Stage) - Early shoot borer, Top borer.

Fruit Crops : Temperate Fruits (Apples, Pears, Peaches, Plums, Cherries, Grapes, and Berries) Major Target Pests (Larval Stage) - Fruit borer, Leaf-eating caterpillars.
(Sub-tropical & Tropical Fruits) (Mango, Banana, Papaya, Citrus (orange, lime), Guava, Pineapple, Jackfruit, Litchi, Pomegranate, and Avocado, alongside others such as Passion Fruit, Sapodilla (Sapota), Custard Apple, and Date Palm) Major Target Pests (Larval Stage) - Fruit borer, Leaf-eating caterpillars.
Plantation Crops : (Tea, Coffee, Rubber, Coconut, Cashew, Arecanut, Cocoa, and Oil Palm) Major Target Pests (Larval Stage) - Tea looper, Leaf roller, Caterpillars.
Dosage & Method of Application
Seedling Root Dip / Nursery Treatment : Mix 10 ml of AGSO Bacillus Thuringiensis with 1L of water. Dip the seedling for 10-20 minutes before transplanting.
Foliar Spray (Field Crops) : Mix 1L AGSO Bacillus Thuringiensis with 150 to 200 Liter of water for one acer. Spray thorough coverage on both leaf sides (dense spray). 10-15 day intervals.
Foliar Spray (Vegetables) : Mix 1L AGSO Bacillus Thuringiensis with 150 to 200 Liter of water for one acer. Spray thorough coverage on both leaf sides (dense spray). 7-9 day intervals.
Soil Application (Supplementary Method) : Soil Application: Mix 2L of AGSO Bacillus Thuringiensis with 100 Kg compost or organic manure, broadcast or apply near the root zone.
Drip Irrigation / Drenching : Mix 2L of AGSO Bacillus Thuringiensis with 200L of water. Drip irrigation 1 acre of land.
Gardeners and small scale farmers : 10ML of AGSO Bacillus Thuringiensis with 1L of water. Hand sprayer / watering can apply weekly during growing season for prevention.
Application Tips for Maximum Effectiveness
Timing: Apply early in the morning or late afternoon when temperatures are moderate.
Coverage:Â Ensure thorough coverage of all plant surfaces, especially the undersides of leaves where many pests hide.
Weather Conditions:Â Avoid application during hot, dry conditions or when rain is expected within 4-6 hours.
Early Intervention:Â Begin applications at the first sign of pest presence for preventative control.
